  • IMO, Sony used to be a well known top-of-the-line brand name product. Now, it's synonymous with the PlayStation brand and a few other products that it still produces. Sony's computer division went under, and now its phone division is on life support like MBL stated. The thing is that I felt Sony kind of rested on its laurels and name while other companies pushed forward in different product areas, which eventually overtook and became standards of how the populace accepted them in their respective tech categories like LG, Samsung, Apple, OnePlus, etc. The problem is once a company losses its appeal in a particular tech product area it's pretty hard to regain it like Nokia, Blackberry, Motorola, etc. I like Sony products, but sometimes I think their products are overpriced and don't really have the "wow factor" for what its competitors already have to offer...

Latest was 2018, and it was a total shit phone after 3 months. it had everything anyone would ever need, but i was so laggy after 3 months it was unuseable. father in law had same problem, wife had same problem, work buddy had same problem and friend who gets free sony phones from work hates them. specs are great. water proof and good camera and so on, but battery and overall functionality is complete shit.

The resolution on the screen is just crisp and vibrant unlike samsung S4 which was I think the same launch date. So I can vouch that sony makes great phones, the problem lies on the marketing. Poor marketing strategy and execution.

When the creator of the Walkman can't get the headphone jack to work right on a phone, that did it for me, as the old phrase goes, "Once bitten, twice shy". 😠 Never had a Sony phone since.

No one has their phones and the only TV I know that someone owns is my dad( amazing tv btw) but everybody got a PlayStation, and maybe Sony has such a dominance in the gaming industry which literally brings in more money then any other form of media combined I don’t think they have to focus on anything else

  • From a big Sony fan from Japan, I have the same frustration. 3 years ago when I bought the Xperia Touch, a smart projector, my mind was blown away. It was by far the best peice of tech I bought ever in my life, and I still use it heavily to this day. Everything about it was innovative, and it felt like the future. Honestly, it still does in 2020. A UV light touch sensor projector with an android OS, which you can gesture control, up to a 128 inch full HD screen. This was a revolution. However, the product got discontinued. Reason? No one knew about it. No one knew that Sony released the Xperia Touch, no one knew that Sony discontinued the Xperia Touch, and no one knew how much of a masterpiece it was. Why dont people buy Sony products? The answer is simple. It has been simple. Marketing. At this point I’m thinking about just taking over the marketing department and fixing it, just so I can get my self an Xperia Touch II

  • Truly a great video on a nice product, but if it has so many features, shouldn't you also research their durability. I can offer a reason for the decline in market share is the company's interactions with the consumer. Years ago I bought the Xperia mini, and suffered a screen crack that was proven to be caused by a swollen hot battery. No recall, no repair, nothing.

  • I once had a Sony phablet. Though Sony makes the best camera sensors, it's camera was really bad. Then the touchscreen broke because I probably bumped into something. As it turned out the very cheap to replace touchscreen was glued to the LCD so I had to purchase a new LCD with it which cost about $100. This happened two or three times. And then I was done with Sony. Forever. Also, at some time the updates stopped, making the phone obsolete. Now I only buy chinese smartphones with good community support of custom ROMs (PixelExperience). I won't buy any phones not supported by PixelExperience. I now always have the latest android on my phone, faster than any corporate ROMs. And that far after the vendor stopped supplying updates for my phone.

  • Probably I think sony made the best smartphones and they sold quite well until rivals like xiomi and realme and all Chinese came to sony's core markets and took over it I had a Xperia z and xperia z tab That z was very fragile in built it broke a year later and no availablity of spare parts led to it being practically useless But still after 5 years that sony xperia z tab works like a charm no update since 4.4 but most apps work well Also it's quite strong fell many times in water still survives thanks to IP67 rating I think if sony offers powerful processors and stops overthinking and launch a midranger with Snapdragon 730 g or so in under ₹15000 they will succeed

And for what its worth, Sony would likely hire your either directly or on contract, to turn around their obvious lack of proper focus and intention to their phone products. Imagine if your work for them increased their sales significantly. That would look great on your life achievements and resume. However, imagine you if you were able to negotiate an annual bonus as a percentage of the annual increase in sales each year, based on your work. Cha ching!

But before making a descision on buying, i check the product support site for any major discusions. Sony is off my list completly, because they were caught removing and deleting bad reviews across the net, I am guessing there is a budget to do that instead of marketing . As i recall, few years back, they removed a 96 page forum from their site about a lagging issue on a TV, then put that TV on special during the holidays, then they resotred the forum after. Not cool SONY.

  • It is funny. You are on point with your comments about people not hearing about their phones. As a person who owns a couple Sony cameras, and happen to be in the market for a phone, I had no clue about this product! I'm not necessarily the most in the know, but there are a butt load of other products I am not in the market for, and whom I have never bought products from, that I am aware of their products! They really need to capitalize on the fact that many people have their products in their homes and get the word out!

  • I got an Xperia XA1 for my birthday. It was my first phone. But about 2 weeks later I started facing touchscreen problems. Like the P and a few other keys weren't working with touch. These problems turned into difficulties and I couldn't even use the buttons such as the home button. I had to turn on and off my phone to exit out of a game for example. Later I had to put pressure into it because swiping the notification bar down with force in my finger was the only solution. I got it fixed with edge replacements. But another about 2 weeks later everything reoccured. So much money to repair it with gone for nothing. Only for it to reoccur. I started to get fed up of it and got other phones even though they were not the latest in the market. My father gave me a Galaxy Grand Prime he got for free from his friend. I noticed it had bad battery life, but still, the screen was a 1000 times better. I didn't care about the battery. It felt good to finally have something well functioning. It sometimes had a little bit of screen malfunctioning, but I found this code you can dial to fix it for samsung phones. So whenever it malfunctioned, I would do that and basically I had done self repair in less than a minute. But then my mother got bothered about its battery life so she wanted to buy me a new phone. Unfortunately my brother who had a Galaxy J6+ for his birthday got jealous about this and wanted to buy a new one too. 'I wanna be twins!!!' But we knew he was just jealous. He didn't wanna be the same with phones. I strongly disagreed because his phone was the best phone I ever had but we will get to that later. Plus it was in perfect condition. There was no need to buy a new phone. Just because I'm getting a new one. I had a reason, he didn't. He was selfish. Then I decided that since he wanted a new phone, he would give his phone to me. I didn't care about getting a new phone or his because his was good enough for me. This would also mean less money spent. And so he did, and he got a Huawei Y6 or something. That phone was great. It had a fingerprint sensor on the power button just like this Xperia, and it had a beautiful and glossy red color. It was quite big as well. And it was really smooth. The camera was slightly dim and not that bright in my opinion but it was everything I ever needed. I had it for just about a week or so when I was in a rush to therapy at school and when it accidentally slipped. I picked it up not expecting cracks because the same thing happened with my Grand Prime before but nothing happened to the screen. But since I find newer phones with their screens to be thinner, they are more likely to have exposure to screen cracks. After I was finished zipping up my coat, I looked at it and the bottom part of the screen was cracked. I could still use it except for being careful with the bottom part of the screen. I was really devastated deep down because it had so many amazing features and I only had it for such a short time. Now I have a Galaxy A10 my mother bought me and my brother after he wanted the Huawei one to be returned just so that we could have the same phones again with his selfish doing. I should have gone for Samsung in the first place but my father found the Xperia XA1 to be a good one and so did I - except little did we know it would have unresponsive screen problems. I still have it in my second desktop drawer and it uses USB C so I am lucky I found another cable for it after my father had stolen mine from me saying he ''bought it for his phone'' which wasn't even a Sony one. It had been out of battery for months until I found that charger and charged it. I don't use it though, but the thing I liked about this phone were the battery along with stamina mode as well as the camera quality. It's brighter than the J6+ and has more color. I sometimes look back at it because this phone was my first phone and therefor it is nostalgic to look at everything and remember all my memories. It still has the screen problems and will always have. My father also gave me an iPhone 7 about 3 months ago because he was getting an 11 pro but he didn't want the 7 to go to waste so he decided to give it to me. Except after an update he had to do, he could no longer hear people and people couldn't hear him when calling. You also can't use Siri because of this, and not even your earphones with that included little cable. But I don't use it for that stuff, the media volume works great and it's a great phone for gaming since it's so smooth and Apple never has lag. All I play is Asphalt 9 on it lol The touch ID took me lforever to put in since the sensor can't properly read my fingers. But it works with my father's, even my grandpa's, just not with mine!! I put it in once and it didn't work for so long, then I removed and tried again and this time it went perfectly. Except the sensor doesn't always properly read my finger. It almost rarely works with my finger!!! Weird but, overall, smooth UI and system. Thanks a lot if you've made it all the way here everyone!!! It means so much to me if you just read this all and I hope you have learnt something from my phone experience!!!! Just remember to be careful with what you choose because it's good on the outside but not always in the inside! It wasn't just me that had this problem, all Xperia XA1 users worldwide face this problem.
